| This Manueline style building
The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery), built in the XVI century, is one of the most important monuments in Lisbon. This Manueline style building - a Portuguese late gothic style developed during the reign of the King D. Manuel I - took 50 years to be built. The monastery was financed at the time, with a 5% tax imposed on the imports of spices. In 1983, it was classified as World Heritage site by UNESCO. | Teatro Nacional D. Maria IINext Image |
