Christmas celebrations, festivities, markets and exhibitions are seen all around Lisbon. One of the most animated areas of Lisbon, Chiado, is filled with museums, new shops, bars, restaurants, galleries, markets, pastry stores and events; open for longer hours and with exciting novelties happening every day. This is a list of a few things you may enjoy during this season in Chiado:
Art in Chiado:
The Galleries in Chiado excel in the variety of choice of forms of art they expose to the general public. They are only a few metres away from each other and quite small, choosing a very particular collection for every exhibition and allowing you to enter various worlds of art in just a few hours.

Shopping in Chiado:
Apart from the several shops you may find in the shopping centre Armazéns do Chiado; this area of Lisbon has several street shops that are worth a visit. Walk around the area, mainly Rua Garrett and explore Chiado on your own. Within the Chiado Plaza there are a few initiatives that have brought the true Christmas feeling into this neighbourhood of Lisbon.
Kids Chiado
During an afternoon shopping, parents may relax and leave their children in a day-care centre that will look after them with the utmost care. This centre has been set up for children between 4 and 9 years of age. Many cultural activities have been organised for children, including painting, clay-making, sculpting, collage, reading and film-watching. Part of the profit made by “Kids Chiado” will be handed to an association dedicated to the Cancer Research in Portugal.

Fado is normally sung by one voice, either male or female. So when an initiative like this one takes place, with Fado in two voices, it is definitely something that should not be missed.
