Festas de Lisboa – 13th of June – Santo António

The city livens up with the festivities for its Patron Saint, Santo António. Known for being the saint that blesses matrimony, many “lisboetas” get married on this day and are blessed by the Bishop of Lisbon. All the different neighbourhoods decorate their streets with colourful flags and adorn the walls with different decorative pieces and numerous stages are set up throughout the city. Locally acclaimed artists perform a concert that promises to bring lots of collective dancing and laughter to the crowds, whilst sardines grill on the barbecue and beer flow around.
