Namban Orders – The Portuguese in Japan in the Modern Era
With this exhibit you can expect a wide variety of Japanese Namban art, produced between the 6th and 7th Centuries when the Portuguese arrived in Japan. They are commonly furniture pieces, lacquered boxes and screens. This exhibition aims at showing this art form from its commercial prospective: the exiting trade circuits at the time, the markets to which it was exported to and the agents to which it was associated to. | WHERE: |
