Sutra_2011

In 2008, the French choreographer and ballet dancer, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, created Sutra. Cherkaoui recruited 17 other young monks from Shaolin, a mythical Chinese buddhist temple where martial arts such as Kung fu and Tai Chi are taken that one step further. This results in a highly co-ordinated, rapid and acrobatic group, which explores poetry and explores the dimensions of a profound sensitivity. The famous British Artist, Anthony Gormley, designed the boxes and pieces that are laid out on stage at that help create an ever-changing background to aid the dances on stage.
