La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi - Rostov Russian State Opera

la_traviataWritten in 1853, La Traviata was the last of a trilogy of Operas, which highlighted the moral and ethic problems that shocked society at the time. The first time Verdi presented this Opera, it was a great failure, something he suspected would happen as he did not believe in the cast chosen by the directors. With a different cast, Verdi organised a second show, a year later, which was a tremendous success. The story is based on the one of Alexander Dumas’s most famous books, “The Lady of the Camelias”. It tells the story of Violeta and her impossible love for Alfredo Geront.
