The newest restaurants in Lisbon

Despite the crisis, there are certain sectors that are still bubbling. In a city where people take great pleasure in eating, drinking and socialising, the restaurant business keeps bringing around new hip places.

The principal areas are Chiado and the main Avenue, Avenida da Liberdade. Unique

She is well known for the clothes she designs and for being a true business woman, but no one really knows Fátima Lopes’ gourmet side. The name says it all, as this restaurant is certainly Unique in character, in origin and as a project. The aim of this new spot is to bring together all areas of Portuguese society in a glamorous environment. The clean-cut image of this restaurant is clearly an art by the hands of this re-known designer; from the uniforms worn by each waiter, to the cutlery, everything has been customary made by Fátima Lopes.

The food is produced by the mastery of João Simões, the winner of the Junior Chef of the World Association of Chefs Societies in New Zealand. He aims to give a taste of familiar flavours, created with modern techniques. Vallet-parking is available, which is a plus in this part of town and you’ll be greeted by a stunning host! This only to welcome you to a mixture of delicious flavours, namely, the tournedos of crusted beef with mushrooms, foie gras and potato rosti or the red mullet with tomato, clams and coriander.

Largo

Miguel Castro e Silva is well-known for his fantastic dishes and Miguel Câncio Martins for his exuberant decorations. These two artists joined together to create a restaurant called, Largo, right in the heart of Chiado. Castro e Silva develops the cuisine that made him famous, with the same passion for different flavours, ingredients and presentations that has characterised his cooking since his first successful restaurant in Porto. Apart from this Chef’s great name, it’s also its location and its contemporary look that make Largo a new obligatory stop in Lisbon.

Yakuza

One of the most lively, hip areas of the city, Avenida da Liberdade, was missing one of the most popular and incredible gastronomy’s: sushi! Finally the trend-setting Chef, Olivier, and Alexandre Maia de Carvalho joined forces to open a “real” Japanese restaurant. Be completely surprised as you enter the restaurant. The cool colours and shining walls immediately transport you to a fresh place. And what is sushi if not the art of preserving the fresh and natural flavours of each ingredient in each roll? That is what Yakusa manages to do, with its decoration, with its staff and with its carefully prepared food: keeping it cool!

Vintage Terrace Bar

At the recently built CS Vintage Lisboa Hotel hosts one of the most incredible bars on its fourth floor, with breathtaking views over the São Jorge castle. Enjoy a quickly low-priced menu for lunch or some delicious light dishes and snacks from 15h00 until 02h00.
